Windows 7 Problem Steps Recorder PSR

Being in IT is often akin to being a detective. You interview people, look at evidence and try to piece together a series of events to decide what occurred after the fact. This is an art, some people are simply amazing at it, it’s a gift they are born with. What about the rest of us? We now have an ally – PSR or Problem Steps Recorder included in Windows 7. You can now demonstrate an issue that is occurring with a very professionally documented reproduction with comments and screen captures. To re-create the output that this program seamlessly produces would require quite a bit of effort. Here is a video sample of this feature:

Webmail/Spam Quarantine Howto

Watch this video to learn how to access and use the Webmail/Spam quarantine options as well as our forwarding and auto responder options. If you cannot view or don’t see the video the analog directions follow:

There are 2 important things you should know about your new Managed Solutions email account.

1. Your spam quarantine is by default only accessible via the webmail interface.
2. You have flexibility if you do not like the default Spam quarantine options.

Step 1 – Login to Webmail – Point your browser to https://webmail.managedsolutions.com
Step 2 – type the email address of your account and password provided. Contact us if you’ve forgotten or lost your password.

The webmail looks something like this:

accesswebmailurlstep1

Once logged in you will know if there are unread messages in your Spam quarantine by looking at the folder on the left hand side under Email Folders something like this:

Spamfolder

In this example there is one unread message in the inbox and 116 messages in the Spam Quarantine. You can then click the Spam folder to manage those messages. The interface is fairly intuitive. Should you decide you wish to modify the Spam Quarantine options, access the Settings button all the way on the top right of your browser window (just above search).  Select the Spam Settings Folder and make the adjustments that you favor. Be sure to click save if you do make a change.

BSOD Info Howto

Occasionally when hardware or drivers are failing a Windows NT or newer windows machine will get a Blue Screen of Death or BSOD. There is some important data present in this screen that will help us identify the likely cause. We likely suggested you visit this article to learn what information we are looking for.

The image in this example (click for a larger version) shows the data we need you to jot down for your trouble ticket. This data is a great starting point for us and will speed up the troubleshooting process greatly.

As you can see there are really three key pieces of data we need, and it is often buried in a sea of (initially) useless data.

Amendment for the DIY people: if you wish to research a BSOD error yourself the best starting point is a google search. In this case we would search for Stop 0x0000007F UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP Beep.sys the actual google search implicated drivers, cpu overclocking and memory. In this case it was the memory but the memory tests fine using several memory test utilities. This is really just to provide you with some basic direction for your research.
