CIMCO Edit Has a New Lineup
On September 1, 2026, CIMCO Edit Standard and Professional were replaced by CIMCO Edit Core and CIMCO Edit Ultra, introducing a simpler two-level product structure with expanded capabilities for both new and existing CIMCO Edit users.
But this is more than just a change in product names.
Core brings advanced NC editing and full toolpath Backplot together in the new entry-level version of CIMCO Edit. Ultra builds on that foundation with high-performance solid simulation and a much broader set of program verification tools, including collision detection, safety checks, travel-limit reporting, and advanced Stop Conditions.
For existing CIMCO Edit customers, the transition is straightforward:
CIMCO Edit Standard → CIMCO Edit Core
CIMCO Edit Professional → CIMCO Edit Ultra
Existing users automatically qualify for the corresponding new product level, with no licensing changes required. To access the new Core or Ultra features, simply install the latest version of CIMCO Edit.
So what exactly changed, what does each version include, and which version makes sense for your shop? Let’s take a closer look.
CIMCO Edit Core: A Significant Step Up from Edit Standard
CIMCO Edit Standard was designed primarily around everyday NC program editing. It could open multiple NC programs, included File Compare, and provided basic NC and editing functions. More advanced NC tools and Backplot were features of Professional rather than Standard.
CIMCO Edit Core changes that.
Core now combines advanced NC editing with full toolpath Backplot, giving users considerably more capability in the base version of CIMCO Edit.
Core includes tools for everyday NC program editing such as File Compare, block-number and spacing tools, spindle-speed and feed-rate adjustment, mathematical functions, Toolpath Statistics, Rotate/Mirror/Translate, and tool-list generation.
Core also includes more advanced tools such as:
- NC Assistant
- Macros
- Multi-Channel Editing and Viewing
- Tool Manager
- Machine Configuration Editor
- Full toolpath Backplot
- Simulation Report for syntax checking
- Heidenhain/ISO Converter

For a shop that primarily needs a capable CNC editor with strong program-editing tools and visual toolpath verification, Core is now a much more complete starting point than the former Standard version.
CIMCO Edit Ultra: Professional Evolves into a More Powerful Verification Platform
The former CIMCO Edit Professional already included the advanced NC functions and Backplot capabilities which distinguished it from Standard.
CIMCO Edit Ultra retains the capabilities of Core and adds another level of simulation and program verification.
Ultra includes high-performance solid simulation with stock removal, along with tools designed to help programmers identify potential problems before an NC program reaches the machine.
Among the additional Ultra capabilities are:
- Solid Animation with stock removal
- Scanning Commands to automatically load tools, work offsets, workpieces, fixtures, and stock
- Collision reporting
- Travel-limit error reporting
- Multiple workpiece, fixture, and stock support

This makes Ultra particularly valuable when simply viewing the programmed toolpath isn’t enough. It provides additional ways to examine the machining process, check the stock, identify potential collisions or travel-limit problems, and investigate specific events during simulation.
Core vs. Ultra: What's the Practical Difference?
At the simplest level, CIMCO Edit Core is focused on advanced NC editing and toolpath Backplot, while CIMCO Edit Ultra includes everything in Core and adds solid simulation and advanced program verification.
What Does this Mean for Existing CIMCO Edit Users?
This is probably the most important part of the change for current customers.
If you currently have CIMCO Edit Standard, you automatically qualify for CIMCO Edit Core.
And this is not simply Standard with a new name.
Standard provided basic NC editing and File Compare, while Backplot and advanced NC functions were part of Professional.
Core now includes advanced NC editing and full toolpath Backplot, meaning existing Standard users gain access to capabilities that previously sat above the Standard product level.
If you currently have CIMCO Edit Professional, you automatically qualify for CIMCO Edit Ultra.
Professional users retain the advanced editing, Backplot, and simulation capabilities they’re accustomed to while gaining the additional verification tools included with Ultra.
For both groups, there is no license conversion required to move to the corresponding new product level. To access the new features, simply install the latest version of CIMCO Edit.
What About CIMCO Machine Simulation?
This is an important distinction.
CIMCO Edit Ultra does not replace the CIMCO Machine Simulation Add-on.
Ultra significantly expands the verification capabilities available directly within CIMCO Edit. However, Machine Simulation takes verification further by incorporating the physical 3D model of the CNC machine itself into the simulation.
Think of the difference this way:
Ultra asks: What is happening with the program, toolpath, stock, tools, fixtures, and workpiece?
Machine Simulation asks: What happens when that program runs on the actual machine configuration?
For shops that need to verify physical machine movement and machine-component interaction, the Machine Simulation Add-on remains the next level of verification.
Under the new product structure, the Machine Simulation Add-on is available with CIMCO Edit Ultra.
Optional CIMCO Edit Add-ons are Still Available
The new Core and Ultra structure doesn’t mean every CIMCO Edit capability has been rolled into the two base products.
Several optional capabilities remain available, including:
- CIMCO DNC-Max Ports for standard serial communication
- CIMCO Mazatrol Viewer
- CIMCO CNC-Calc
- CIMCO NC-Base
These options allow a shop to expand CIMCO Edit based on its workflow without requiring every user to have every capability.
This continues a long-standing approach within CIMCO Edit, since previous Standard and Professional versions also supported these optional functions.
Which CIMCO Edit Version is Right for Your Shop?
A simple way to think about it is:
Choose CIMCO Edit Core if you need:
Advanced NC and G-code editing, File Compare, productivity tools, Tool Manager, and full toolpath Backplot for everyday programming and verification.
Choose CIMCO Edit Ultra if you need:
Everything in Core plus solid stock simulation, collision detection, safety checks, travel-limit reporting, advanced Stop Conditions, Stock Compare, and other advanced verification tools.
Add CIMCO Machine Simulation if you need:
Verification using the physical 3D model and movements of the actual CNC machine.
There isn’t one correct configuration for every shop. The right choice depends on the complexity of your programs, machines, setups, and how far you want to take verification before a program reaches the machine.
