This Tech Tip explains how to configure DNC-Max to back up received CNC programs only when the incoming file is different from the version already stored.
When Auto Receive is set to overwrite existing files, every transfer creates a new backup, even when the incoming program is identical to what is already on the server. In a shop running the same programs across multiple shifts, that adds up to a backup history full of entries that tell you nothing.
Set the Replace mode to ‘Only replace if different’. DNC-Max compares the incoming file against the stored version before doing anything. If they match, the incoming file is discarded, the stored file is untouched, and no backup entry is created. If they are different, it saves and backs up as normal.
The result is a backup history that reflects actual changes. When you need to trace what happened to a program, you are looking at meaningful entries instead of scrolling past dozens of identical transfers to find the one that matters.
