This Tech Tip explains how to configure collision checking in CIMCO Edit Ultra to focus on the moves that matter and improve simulation performance.
Tool/Workpiece collision checking sounds like something you always want on. In practice, leaving it on for cutting moves just slows your simulation down. The tool is supposed to touch the workpiece during a cut. A collision there is not a mistake, it is the job.
In Collision Settings, Tool/Workpiece Collisions can be set to ON, Rapid Moves only, Cutting Moves only, or OFF. Turn it off for cutting moves and let Stock Compare handle that check instead. Stock Compare is built for it. Reserve your collision checking for rapid moves, where an unexpected contact actually means something went wrong.
For roughing programs specifically, Rapid-only checking is usually the sweet spot. You catch the moves that should never touch anything and skip the noise from the ones that always do.
